A forbidden marriage in a remote coastal Australian town, vengeful spirits and an abandoned fishing shack.
That was the basis for the short film I created to bring life to playwright Fregmonto Stokes’ script. In collaboration with the writer I built a 1:10 scale set to visualise the crumbling shack of a dead Japanese pearl diver living near Perth, Australia. The carefully constructed miniature set was populated with items from the dead man’s life, infusing the little Australian shack with a Japanese flavour and hinting at his life.
Shakira Clanton provides superb voice acting for the emotional account his Aboriginal widow gives of the events leading up to his mysterious death. The model was lit and photographed by Matt Godden, to provide stills that were edited together by myself to create the short film.
